Quality Without a Name

This is the "Miraculous Staircase" of the Loretto Chapel in Santa Fe, NM.

Part of the mystery behind this work of art is its stability. There are no visible supports beneath the staircase, thus creating the enigma surrounding the church and its legend.

What makes this structure beautiful, besides the double-helix design itself, is the fact that it meets the spacial boundaries that were deemed too small to support a staircase by all other artisans and carpenters at the time of its construction.
